“She commands the stage from the moment she makes her entrance”
— The Times UK

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Paris, China Moses blends the cultural richness of both cities into her artistry. The daughter of jazz legend Dee Dee Bridgewater and Free Southern Theatre co-founder and director Gilbert Moses, she wrote and co-composed her debut single “Time” at the age of 16, accompanied by a video directed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino. In her 20s, she released three albums under EMI imprint Source—China, On tourne en rond (“Round We Go”), and Good Lovin’—which showcased her early evolution as an artist.
She followed these with two successful straight-ahead jazz releases on Blue Note and Verve, honoring the musical legacies of Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, Mamie Smith, Ann Peebles, and Donna Summer, among others. In 2017, her album Nightintales (MPS Records/Made In China Productions) marked a pivotal shift as she began defining her voice as a singer-songwriter at the crossroads of soul and jazz. The album took her around the globe. She has collaborated with DJ Mehdi, Karriem Riggins, Guru, Anthony Marshall, Swedish label Breaking Bread, Meshell Ndegeocello, Terence Blanchard, Terri Lyne Carrington and renowned sound engineer Bob Power. Her upcoming album, it’s Complicated…, set for release in spring 2025, features work with Troy Miller, Lakecia Benjamin, Daru Jones, Marvin Sewell, Theo Croker, and Oli Rockberger.
A global citizen, China has performed at iconic venues worldwide, including London’s Ronnie Scott’s, Jazz Café, Barbican Centre, and Royal Albert Hall, as well as Paris’ Olympia, UNESCO International Jazz Day (where she co-hosted and performed), and La Cigale. She has also graced stages at the Vienna Konzerthaus, Berlin Opernhaus, Elbphilharmonie, Dresdner Philharmonie, SF Jazz, San Jose Jazz, and New York’s Rose Theatre at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Birdland, and Nublu. With over 800 shows across six continents, she has solidified her reputation as an joyfully electric and engaging live performer
Beyond the stage, China is a seasoned researcher, music maker, and broadcaster, with her own shows on TSF Jazz in France, Jazz FM in the UK, and East Village Radio in NYC. Her commitment to authentic representation has earned her critical acclaim. China is a graduate of the 2013 Young Leaders program at the French American Foundation, holds the title of France’s Chevalier of the Order of Merit, and has lent her expertise to organizations like the Montreux Jazz Academy, Britten Pears Arts, MIDEM, and the EFG London Jazz Festival. She also serves as a board member of 651 Arts.
